I am Dr Mariam Majid, a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience working in the NHS in Newcastle. I am also an accredited Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR practitioner in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Describe EMDR.

A clever strategy for dealing with emotional and psychological problems is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The first application of EMDR was to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Recent clinical trials have shown that EMDR provides the necessary treatment for depression, cognitive impairment, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and physical and sexual abuse.

How does EMDR work?

EMDR can frighten or amplify memories, details, and emotions by altering brain waves. The process is called adaptive information processing. During two-layer eye development, tapes, or tones, the Counselor assists the client by highlighting images, displays, and sympathetic connections to irritating reminders.

The client has ways to deal with vivid memories, images, reflections, feelings, and emotions associated with a negative or negative situation during the Opposition Phase.
